The hunger strike launched by teachers under the auspices of All Manipur Elementary School Teacher's Association demanding services regularisation and release of 10 months' pending salary completed its second day today at Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba Maning.
According to the teachers, the agitation was launched to protest non-issue of regularisation order even after the State Cabinet’s discussion for the regularisation of 1786 teachers who already got requisite qualification scale.
The teachers have also protested the reported non-release of 10 months’ pending salary .

Speaking to reporters today, one of the agitating teachers said that the State Cabinet on April 28 discussed about regularisation of payment of enhanced scales of pay to teachers having requisite qualification, no order has so far been issued to this effect .
Despite representatives of AMESTA holding several rounds of talks with the Chief Minister, Finance Minister and Education Minister regarding non-payment of pending salary to teachers, no action has been till date, she said .
As such, the teachers have decided to launch the hunger strike, the teacher added.
The present Government, as per the Cabinet decision on April 28, has withdrawn the cancellation order of 1786 Govt teachers’ appointment issued by the previous Government.
Despite the present State Govt’s announcement that no file should be kept pending for more than two days, the Govt kept the issue of the teachers pending for more than two months now, the teachers alleged.
