Manipur likely to have own SoP for HCV screening, diagnosis & treatment

With the draft Standard of Procedure (SoP) for HCV Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment initiated by Community Network for Empowerment (CoNE) with technical inputs from various physicians, gastroenterologists of the State and experts from the State Health Department nearing its final stage, Manipur is likely to become the first State to have its own State specific SoP very soon.
A day-long State level workshop was organised under the aegis of CoNE in consultation with Directorate of Health Services, Directorate of Family Welfare and State Health Society, Government of Manipur at The Classic Hotel, North AOC here in Imphal yesterday, said a statement of RK Nalinikanta president, CoNE today.

The workshop was organised with the primary objective of finalizing the State specific Standard of Procedure for HCV Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment, the draft of which was earlier developed by CoNE with feedback and suggestion from various physicians, gastroenterologists of the State and experts from the state health department.
During the course of the workshop, all stakeholders unanimously approved the draft SoP and it was agreed that the SoP can be adopted in principle based on certain amendments and information inserted wherever necessary.
It was further agreed that CoNE along with the earlier core group will rework the SoP and finalize it after which it will be submitted to the Principle Secretary of Health and Family Welfare through the State Mission Director, National Health Mission, Government of Manipur, said CoNE.
State Mission Director, NHM N Bandana Devi said that SoP also does not in any way contradict with the National guideline with exception to some additions.
According to Giten Khwairakpam, program manager, TREAT Asia/amfAR, Bangkok, Thailand who has been taking active role in developing the SoP, the SoP is user friendly and more reliable.
Dr Nicole Seguy, CD team leader, WHO India, Dr Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director (PH), Govt of Manipur, Dr RK Rosie, State Nodal Officer, Viral Hepatitis Programme, NHM, Govt of Manipur, Dr Kh Lokeshwar Singh, Assoc Prof Department of Medicine, JNIMS also took part in the workshop as resource persons.
Dr Amit Goel, Associate Professor, Department of Gastroenterology, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow and CoNE president RK Nalinikanta and other delegates attended the event.
