ment Primary Co-Op Bank which would give emphasis to farmers
was opened today by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam at
Uripok Takhellembam Leikai, Imphal West.
Speaking at the gathering, Gaikhangam remarked that es-
tablishment of more such private banks would go a long way
in making cooperative movement a success in the State.
For private banks to flourish and enable them help needy
people financially, there must be smooth cooperation between
banks between the two sides.
He also expressed keen desire to extend benefits of such
banks in the hill areas too.
It would be highly beneficial if all
the unused lands of the State particularly those located in hill
districts are surveyed.
Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai rued that there are
very few success stories although many private banks have
been established in the State.
One major factor for the usual failures suffered by private
banks in Manipur is lack of 'banking habit' on the part of
general public.
Private banks are essential for a successful
green revolution in the State, Mirabai said.
