Bird traps seized from Pumlen and Khoidum Lakes

Kakching, February 19 2020:
A team of Forest officials seized five bird traps during a surprise drive in Pumlen Lake and Khoidum Lake, today.
N Munal Meitei, Range Forest Officer; N Brojen Singh, Forest Beat Officer, Waikhong and his staffs along with M Open Singh, Honorary Wildlife Warden, Thoubal took part in the drive.
During the drive, 5 bird traps were seized.
Luckily, no bird was found trapped and the offenders escaped the site taking advantages of the morning fog.
Speaking to media persons, N Munal Meitei said that after a frequent drive, cases of bird trapping have been reduced considerably as compared with the past.
Conducting awareness programme in and around these wetlands may have a long term effect in protecting the migratory birds, he said and added that the drive will continue till tomorrow.
On the other hand, N Munal lauded O Ingobi Singh, fish farmer, for protecting about 30-40 common teals (Anas crecca) in his fish farm.
He appealed to all other fish farmers to protect migratory birds.
Saying that migratory birds are a precious gift of God and they should not be hunted, he further appealed all to protect wild birds and animals for the sake of future generation and a beautiful Manipur.
