Impact of climate change on farmers stressed

State Government should strictly implement the State Plan of Action on Climate Change 2013 to preserve and save environment, said New Life Foundation secy L Pishak today.
He was speaking at a press conference on "Impact of Climate Change & Violation of Right to Life Article 21" held at L Mani Memorial Training Hall, Moirang.
Pointing out the various impact of degrading environment, he asserted that the present deficient monsoon rain is due to climate change.
Timely implementation of projects and preparedness could have avoided the present drought like situation across the State, he said stressing the need to bring back to life the Loktak Lift Irrigation Project and other River Lift Irrigation Projects across the State.
Canals are being cleaned and cleared for immediate use, but it will not serve the purpose for long, he said emphasising the need for a long term permanent solution to give water to the farmers all year round.
He also underscored the importance of organising agriculture related awareness programmes for the farmers to give them information on technology, crops and schemes which will insure their crops and future.
Most of the farmers in the State are unaware of the various Government schemes, he said identifying it as a main reason for their slow growth.
Advocate P Premchand Singh and many other resource persons spoke on various topics.
The press conference was organised by New Life Foundation Bishnupur with Widow Welfare Organisation Khudekpi, Kwakta Chanura Lamjing Lup, Ngangkhalawai Widow Group, Ngangkhalawai Sinaibi Widow Group and Sinaibi Self Help Group Upokpi Khunou.
