Bandh affects normal life in districts

With the current impasse in Manipur University going in depth, the 48 hours bandh called by the Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) has affected normal life in districts across the State.
Denouncing the impasse in the varsity and demanding removal of the Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, student community and supporters of the bandh including local meira paibis thronged the NH-102 and other streets and restricted vehicular movements in Thoubal district.
Government offices, banks, post offices, schools and colleges remained closed for the day.
Thoubal bazar, Wangjing bazar and Yairipok bazar don deserted looks during the bandh.
However, there have been no report of any unwanted incident/accident during the first 24 hours of the bandh in the district.
The 48 hours bandh also affected normal activities in Bishnupur district too.
Schools, Colleges, banks and post offices remained shut.
Nambol bazar, Bishnupur market, Ningthoukhong bazar, Moirang bazar, Kwakta market and Kumbi bazar were shut.
Police personnel were stationed along the roads to avert unwanted incidents during the bandh.
The bandh, however did not affect emergency services, cultural and traditional processions.
Movement of transport/ passenger vehicles were restricted, said our correspondents.
The 48 hours bandh was also effective in Jiribam and crippled the daily activities in the district.
Shops and stores remained closed.
Schools, colleges and most of the Government offices remained closed.
There have been no report of any unwanted incident and damages during the first 24 hours of the bandh in the district.
