State doctors join Protest Day

In solidarity with the nationwide protest "Stop violence on Profession and Professionals" initiated by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) so as to spread the message of "Save the Saviours"; IMA Manipur State Branch staged a sit-in protest at its Lamphelpat complex on Friday while healthcare workers of Raj Medicity too extended solidary to the movement at their North AOC premises.
Similar protests were also staged at the complexes of RIMS, JNIMS and various other private hospitals across the state.
However, doctors provided uninterrupted medical care to patients while wearing black badges.
With regard to the protest, IMA Manipur State Brach said that the existing legislation is lacking in many aspects and this has led to brazen attacks on doctors, nurses, medical staff and destruction of hospital properties.
As such, the Association is demanding enactment of a more stringent Act which would include provisions of punishing the persons responsible within 30 days.
At Raj Medicity, all the doctors and staff of the private hospital staged sit-in protest wearing black badges and holding placards that read "Save the saviours" and "Stop violence on profession and professionals" .
The protest was led by chairman & managing director of Raj Medicity Haobijam Rajen Singh.
He demanded the implementation of Central and Health Care Professionals Protection Act with IPC and Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), standardisation and augmentation of security in each hospital, and declaring hospitals as protected zones among others.
