Governor urged to assist stranded transporters

Imphal, May 17 2023:
A joint delegation of All Ma-nipur Petroleum Tankers Drivers' Union (AMPTDU), All Manipur Road Transport Workers' Feder-ation, Highway Truck Owners' Welfare Association and Manipur Drivers' Association met Governor Anusuiya Uikey and urged her to provide assistance to drivers and handymen, who are left stranded along the national highways due to highway blockade by protestors.
Interacting with the media after the meeting, AMPTDU president Y Bhupendra Ghosh said they met the Governor to urge her to look into the hardships faced by the transporters stranded along the highways.
They also urged the Governor to ensure provision of crane, recovery vans, medical team and ambulance along with the se-curity convoy to be sent to escort back the transporters.
Around 250 trucks carrying different essential commodities including petroleum products are left stranded in Sen-apati area, he said.
During the meeting, the Governor called DC Senapati over the phone and issued instruction to ensure provision of medicine and relief materials as well as their welfare and protection, he said while thanking the Governor for her swift response.
He also appealed to the government to take up necessary measures to expedite the process for restoring peace and normalcy in the state.
MDA general secretary Sanjay Kshetrimayum said that the Gov-ernor, however, told the delega-tion that using force to escort the stranded transporters into Imphal might worsen the situation.
The delegation also informed the Gover-nor about past incidents, in which trucks which got left behind from the security convoy for one rea-son or another getting robbed or vandalised by protestors while re-questing for adequate security and other necessary arrangements not to leave behind any trucks.
After hearing the appeal, the Governor assured to explore all possible means, while asking the delegation to meet the state security advisor and air their grievances to him too.
