IHWM celebrates anniversary

The 19th anniversary celebration of International Handicapped Welfare Mission was held at Manipur Press Club today.
Konthoujam AC MLA K Sarat, Padmashree L Nabakishore, Director of Prosecution, Ng Tejkumar, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, L Ibomcha UCM President Y Nabachandra and A Guni Devi attended the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
MLA K Sarat and Padmashree L Nabakishore distributed pensions to 202 differently abled persons at the function.
The pension amount was donated by them.
Khomdram Angou Bravery Incentive Awards, which were given to the individuals, who marry with differently abled persons, were also handed over in the function.
Giving his keynote address, International Handicapped Welfare Mission general secretary Longjam Lokendra said that many individuals are leading normal life after tying marital knot with differently abled persons.
To encourage such individuals, the Mission has been awarding Bravery Incentive Award to them from 2012, he added.
A cash award of Rs 1500 was given to 14 persons in the first year.
In 2013, the cash award was increased to Rs 3000 and given to eight individuals, he said and added that in the initial two years, the awards were given from the funds of the Mission.
However, from this year onwards, late Khomdram Angou's family would donate the award which would carry a cash of Rs 5000, a citation and a shawl each.
This year's award winners were Keisham Bishorjit and his wife Keisham Ongbi Khomdonbi Devi from Yairipok Bishnunaha, Ngairangbam Inaocha and his wife Ngairangbam Ongbi Lalitabi of Kontha Khabam Mayai Leikai, S Damkhohat Aimol and her husband K Amang Aimol of Tampak village, Pallel and Usham Ongbi Rasheshori and her husband Usham Ropen of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai.
The award is given to those couples of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Chandel districts, who lead normal life although their spouse is a differently abled person.
