15-day long workshop on tradition of Nata-Sankirtana

Imphal, December 14 2011:
In an attempt to strengthen the tradition of Nata-Sankirtana outside Manipur, especially in the Manipuri inhabited areas of Assam and Tripura, Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), Imphal would be organizing a series of 15-day long workshop on tradition of Nata-Sankirtana at Agartala, Hojai and Silchar.
JNMDA would be collaborating with Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura in organizing the workshop at Agartala from December 15 to 29 .
Vice Chairman of JNMDA Prof N Tombi Singh would inaugurate the workshop while Guru M Seityaban Singh (Pung), Guru Th Yaiskul (Cholom) and Guru Brajamani (Eshei) would participate as resource persons.
The team left Imphal for Agartala today.
The next team consisting of Guru N Shyamchand Singh (Cholom), Guru Kh Kirti Singh (Eshei) and Guru N Thambalangou Singh (Pung) would be leaving for Hojai on December 28 for the workshop scheduled to be held there from December 20, 2011 to January 12, 2012.JNMDA would be collaborating with Traditional Manipuri Arts and Cultural College, Hojai in organizing the workshop.
For the workshop to be held at Silchar from January 2 to 16, 2012, the team comprising Guru L Lakpati Singh (Eshei), Guru E Chaobhal Singh (Cholom) and Guru Ksh Kriti Singh (Pung) would be leaving Imphal on January 1, 2012.JNMDA would be collaborating with the Department o Manipuri, Assam University in organizing the workshop at Silchar.
Issuing a statement in this regard, Director of JNMDA Dilip Mayengbam informed that the aim of the workshop is to maintain the same tradition of Nata-Sankirtana, both inside and outside Manipur.
At each venue, 25 participants of practicing Pung, Eshei and Duhar artistes will take part in the workshop.
It is the beginning of the mission to sort out the differences and maintain the same beautiful tradition of Sankirtana practiced in Manipur, he added.
