Imphal, October 13 2016:
The Manipur University Students’ Union ( MUSU ) has submitted a memorandum to the President of India and the Human Resource Development Ministry today concerning the present crisis at Manipur University.
MUSU in the memorandum said Manipur University is in a mess owing to the failure of the university authority to solve the issue of reservation in admission to post graduate courses for the academic session 2016-17. The trouble, the union said, stemmed out from an abortive attempt of MU authorities to adopt the reservation norms of 2006 (ST-7.5 pc, SC-15 pc and OBC-27 pc) against the existing Central Educational Institutions Reservation in Admission Amendment Act, 2012 (ST-31 pc, SC-2 pc and OBC-17 pc).
The decision of the MU Academic Council goes against the ruling of the High Court and the against the directions given by the Chancellor DM Nachane to Vice-Chancellor incharge Professor M Dhaneshor Singh in a letter on September 12, 2016 , it said.
The union has requested the President and the Ministry of Human Resource Development to settle the reservation issue in the varsity at the earliest.
The academic career of thousands of students is at stake, the union added.
