Imphal, October 13 2011:
Those persons intending to possess a driving license should have a training certificate from a government recognized Driving School, those without the certificate will not be issued a driving license, asserted Transport Minister, K Ranjit.
Speaking at the 8th Foundation Day celebration of the Driver Training and Research Centre (Manipur Driving School) held at Nupee Lal Memorial Complex, Minister K Ranjit said that the present trend of issuing a driving license without testing their driving skills of the applicant and through corrupt means, is a disgrace to the state government.
According to CMV rules there is strict prohibition of issue of driving license to those who have not acquired the basic training of driving and to those who are underage as per prescribed rule.
But in the state, a number of persons who can drive properly are being issued driving license by the department.
This is the main reason for the increase in the cases of accidents in the state.
As such the Transport department has taken up steps not to issue driving license to those without training certificates, he said.
He further went on to say that process to run the only government recognized Driving School, Driver Training and Research Centre (Manipur Driving School), under the PPP model will be discussed with the Transport officials.
The function was graced by Minister K Ranjit, H Dilipkumar, Retired Chief Town Planner and N Raghumani, Chairperson, IMC as the Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
