HS Examination-2014: Pass percentage declined by 4.5 pc

The result of Higher Secondary Examination-2014 conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) was declared today witnessing an overall pass percentage of 76.89, which is about 4.5 percent less from the last year's pass percentage of 81.44 .
The result of the Higher Secondary Examination in CD format was released at around 1.30 pm at the office of COHSEM located at Babupara by its Chairman Dr Hamom Nabachandra.
The result was also uploaded on the website "www.manresults.nic.in" .
Out of the total 22522 candidates who appeared in three streams of Arts, Commerce and Science in this year's HS Examination, 17318 students were declared passed.
The pass percentage of this year's HS Examination has been declined as compared to the previous two years of 2012 and 2012, which recorded pass percentage of 82.86 and 81.44 respectively.

Moreover, the total number of appeared candidates has also been decreased considerably this year.
A total of 26437 candidates appeared in 2013 last year, but only 22522 candidates appeared this year.
The exact reason for this sharp decline could not be ascertained, though greater enrolment of students in CBSE schools may be one such possible factor.
In Science stream, 12844 candidates out of the total 16470 were declared passed thereby achieving a pass percentage of 77.98 .
In Arts stream, 4147 candidates out of the total 5564 were declared passed marking a pass percentage of 74.53, while Commerce stream recorded a pass percentage of 67.01 with 327 candidates of the total 488 passed in the examination.
According to the district-wise pass percentage, Ukhrul topped the list with 92.17 percent while Bishnupur remained at the bottommost with 51.39 percent.
Imphal East district recorded a pass percentage of 67.68 with 2069 candidates out of the total 3057 passed in the examination, while 4806 candidates out of the total 6968 in Imphal West were declared passed marking a pass percentage of 68.97 .
In Bishnupur district, 573 candidates out of the total 1115 passed in the examination.
Churachandpur recorded a pass percentage of 75.52 with 1484 candidates out of the total 1965 passed, while Thoubal district has 3402 candidates out of the total 3769 passed marking a pass percentage of 90.26 .
Chandel district achieved a pass percentage of 88.27 with 875 candidates out of the total 991 passed in the examination, Senapati district recorded a pass percentage of 86.9 with 2847 candidates out of 3276 passed, and Tamenglong witnessed a pass percentage of 90.2 with 497 candidates out of the total 551 passed in the examination.
In Ukhrul district, 765 candidates of the total 830 were declared passed thereby marking the highest pass percentage among the districts in this year's HS Examination.
Speaking at the declaration function of HS Examination result, Secretary of COHSEM Sarangajit Khundrakpam said that the Council tried its best to conduct the HS Examination strictly by forming 42 flying squads.
The flying squads closely inspected all centres during the examination.
Altogether 49 candidates for impersonation and 83 candidates for using unfair means were expelled from the examination.
He further said that the result of 10 candidates has been withheld, but the case would be settled within this month.
The Principals concerned should communicate to the Council regarding the result of the withheld candidates.
The improvement examination would also be held during the last week of June next month, the Secretary added.
