Moreh, July 12 2020:
Following the cessation of business activities between India and Myanmar due to the outbreak of the highly contagious novel coronavirus (nCoV-2), a border town of Manipur, Moreh is becoming more like a ghost town each passing day.
Though sealing of Indo-Myanmar border has affected all, the worst hit are proletariats who used to earn money for food, clothing, etc for themselves as well as their family members by doing menial jobs in the border town.
Apart from those who do menial jobs, owners of rice hotels and lodging facilities are also affected by the suspension of business activities between the two countries as number of customers have been reduced to a bare minimum.
One of the rice hotel operators asserted that many business establishments in the town have been closed with no other source of income.
He appealed to the State Government to initiate some means so that suffering of Moreh denizens, especially the working-class people could be mitigated.
