Flood destroys over 33,000 hectares of paddy fields in Manipur

Imphal, August 11 2015 :
Nearly 33,312 hectares of paddy fields in nine districts of Manipur have been destroyed in the recent flood caused by incessant rains with Thoubal district being the worst-hit District.
The State has a total 1,95,000 hectres of paddy fields.
Out of 21,650 hectares of paddy fields in Thoubal, rice grown in 19,164 hectres has been damaged by the deluge caused by rains.
The Manipur Relief & Rehabilitation Department estimated that the district has lost up to 90 percent of the standing crop.

According to the crop damage report, rice cultivated in some 34,960 hectare has failed and that they will not yield anything this season.
All paddy fields affected by the flood are now surrounded by muddy waters which have made difficult for the owners to identify their original locations.
