ADC Executive Member stresses on the need of road safety

A one day awareness on road safety programme was organised at DRDA conference hall, mini secretariat Hamleilkhong Ukhrul today .
Executive member (EM) ADC, Ukhrul Kapangpam Zimik who attended the event as the chief guest expressed disappointment that the event was participated by only a few drivers and no public leaders turned up at the event, despite the effort for road safety .
Speaking at the event, he said that positive responses from the school going children and their enthusiasm to learn and educate themselves about traffic rules will reduce road mishaps .
While speaking as the guest of honour, SP, Hemant Pandey stated that most of the drivers in the town lack traffic knowledge as well as the rule and regulations
He said that traffic are getting difficult to control, although sufficient traffic securities were deployed in the town .
OSD BK Sharma as well as Joint Director of Transport elaborated on how to reduce road accidents and safety measures of crossing the road .
He said that road accidents have increased tremendously in the last 5 years .
According to insight, 33 persons have died on the sport due to road mishaps and more than 70 were injured on a day, in the month of April, 2017 .
He said, after intensive investigation, it was found that some of the drivers possess fake driving license and had no awareness of safe driving.
BK Sharma urged all the drivers to observe the principle of “Rights to way” in order to reduce road accidents .
The awareness programme was attended by Ukhrul District Taxi Welfare Association (UDTWA) members led by its president Khathing, school children, policemen and staff of District transport office .
The programme was organized by Directorate of Transport, Govt of Manipur in collaboration with Institute of Driver Training & Research Centre (IDTRC) and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) .
