Jiribam girl to tour North East on cycle

Jiribam, July 09 2013:
Concerned over rising crime and violence against women in north-eastern region, Sougaijam Bidyalakshmi, a 17-year-old girl from Jiribam, has come forward to tour all 82 districts of the seven Northeast States all alone on a bicycle to spread message of stopping violence against women.
Bidyalakshmi is a Class-XII student of Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School and a senior volunteer of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan.
She is the daughter of Sougaijam Iboton and Sougaijam Ongbi Yangoisana of Lakhipur Ward No.9, Jiribam Sub-division in Imphal-East.

Talking to media persons, Bidyalakshmi said, "I am really disturbed by the ongoing crime and violence against women throughout the country, especially in Northeast.
I have decided to tour the whole Northeast all alone on a bicycle just to spread message to stop violence against women" .
"The tour will start from Imphal in August next month and will cover all 82 districts of seven Northeast States in about five months", she noted.
Her father Iboton said that the family has supported her in the cause for women, and appealed to all organizations to render valuable help and cooperation to his daughter's venture to tour the whole Northeast.
