Aimol body advocates formation of 'peace committee'

General Secretary of Aimol Tribe Union Manipur (ATUM) Ch Lolo Aimol said that Aimol community and religious leaders are opened to the idea of forming a 'peace committee' with the Pallel Meetei community for strengthening relationship between the two groups.
The ATUM leader informed this to media in Chandel district on Friday while earnestly inviting the fellow Meetei brethren to join the proposed committee.
Lolo said that the anticipated committee would be instrumental in restoring peace and communal harmony between the two communities and also among different ethnic groups living in and around Pallel area.
While conveying the condolence by the Aimol Baptist Association (ABA) to the bereaved family, which also wished for a speedy recovery of those who were injured in the unfortunate incident of May 5, the Aimol apex body leader also was confident that the proposed peace committee would restore peace.
Meanwhile, the Aimol Baptist Association, Manipur women department condemned the Laithok Ching firing of May 5 that killed one person and injured four others.
A statement by the association stated that no organization was responsible for the incident and that it was a sheer madness of the gunmen.
It said the suspect in the shooting case was asked to surrender to the authorities by the association following which he did so.
The association further clarified that the Aimol community was unaware about the attack on the Lai Haraoba party and called for maintaining the peaceful co-existence between the Aimol and Meetei communities as before.
Aimol Satu Village clarifies
Aimol Satu Village Secretary S Kokpi Aimol has clarified that the accused involved in the Pallel firing on May 5, M Agustin, son of M Ngamchung Aimol hailed from Aimol Chingnunghut and not Aimol Satu village as reported.
