Govt rolls up sleeves to host Indian Science Congress

The 105th Indian Science Congress, which will be hosted by Manipur University from March 16 to March 20, is estimated to draw around 5000 delegates including prominent scientists, University teachers and resource-persons.
It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reportedly inaugurating the function.
According to information received by The Sangai Express from an official source, a meeting was held today to discuss steps for ensuring success of the five days programme which will be the first of its kind for the State Government as well as Manipur University.
The responsibilities/duties of the departments concerned concerning the programme have been handed out as well.
The source pointed out that General Administrative Department, Education (S) and Education (U) have been tasked with booking hotels and guest houses of the State well in advance.
As the hotels, guest houses and Manipur University guest house cannot accommodate all the delegates, special arrangements will also be made to accommodate the delegates at the hostels inside Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and SAI Takyelpat.
According to the source, Chief Secretary RR Rashmi was to chair the meeting initially but due to the Assembly session, he was replaced by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu.
The meeting was attended by top officials of Home, Transport, PWD, Higher &Technical Education, Water Supply, YAS, Education (S) as well as other departments concerned, MU's VC, Registrar and officials as well as officials of Manipur Technical University (MTU).
The source stated that DGP has been tasked with overseeing the construction of the stages and collaborating with Special Protection Group (SPG) of the Prime Minister, as the event will be graced by the PM.
The Transport Department has been tasked with getting in touch with the Ministry of Aviation to ensure proper number of Guwahati/Dimapur-Imphal and Imphal-Guwahati/Dimapur flights during the event so as to facilitate easier arrival and departure of delegates.
DGP Manipur will handle the security arrangements for the delegates as well as the venues, MSPDCL will handle the power resource, IMC will handle the cleaning arrangements of the venues for the five days event, Transport and Traffic Police Departments will handle the parking arrangements inside the University's campus and Art and Culture Department has been assigned the responsibilities of supervising the cultural programmes which will be organised from 5 to 7 pm inside the campus during the event.
According to the source, PWD has been tasked with construction and maintenance of proper routes/roads from Imphal airport to Manipur University and from Mao to Imphal.
The source added that all the expenses for the logistic support, transport arrangement, accommodation, organisation of cultural programmes as well as other tasks, will be borne by the organising committee of the 105th Indian Science Congress.
