Shija hospital treats 14 heart patients from Mizoram

Cardiac team of Shija hospitals treated 14 patients from Mizoram through the device closure, balloon pulmonary valvotomy and wire removal procedures.
Informing that the Mizoram patients were identified as having heart issues during day-long "Free Heart Disease Screening Camp " held at DEIC Kulikawn, Aizawl on November 15, Shija Business Development manager L Premjit informed that after 162 successful non-operative device closures of holes in the heart, Shija Heart Beat, in collaboration with Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), National Health Mission, Mizoram organised a two-day device closure camp for congenital heart defect (CHD) patients on December 2 and 3 at the hospital.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed between Shija and RBSK, National Health Mission, Mizoram, on November 14 to treat the children with heart defects at Shija Heart Beat under the RBSK Scheme.
Out of the 14 patients, six were treated for closure of Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), three Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) Closure, three Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) Closure, and one Balloon Pulmonary Valvotomy on December 3 while one wire removal procedure was conducted on December 2, the manager informed, adding that after receiving treatment, the patients' conditions gradually improved and they were discharged from the hospital on December 4.Informing that Shija Heart Beat is dedicated to the diagnosis and surgical treatment of cardiac, thoracic, and vascular diseases, the manager highlighted that the hospital offers .a wide range of facilities including Angiography, Angioplasty, Echo, TMT, Holter, pacemaker implantation, etc.
With its third-generation cath lab, cardiac critical care units and intensive care units, Shija is one of the region's most sought-after cardiology hospitals, the manager informed, while also adding that for the first time in India, the team of experts at Shija used 5 French delivery shealth to treat very tight VSD holes of a 7-year old patient from Mizoram during the camp.
Shija Heart Beat has successfully completed 165 angioplasty procedures, 177 device closures and 27 open heart surgeries.
As of date, the hospital has conducted device closures for 149 patients from Manipur, 16 from Nagaland and 12 from Mizoram under the RBSK, CMHT and PMJAY schemes, the manager informed.
RBSK is a National Rural Health Mission programme that aims at early identification and intervention for children from birth to 18 years who are diagnosed with Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs), surgical treatment of Cleft lip and Cleft palate, Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH), Congenital Cataract, Congenital Deafness, Retinopathy of Prematurity, Otitis Media, Dental Caries and Vision Impairment.
