'Reinvestigate Gaithouliu Phaomei murder case'

Contending that there were many loopholes in the investigation into the murder case of Ph Gaithouliu Phaomei, the deceased's maternal family and women wing of United NGO Mission of Manipur (UNMM) have demanded a reinvestigation of the case and the same be handed over to a fast track court.
Addressing a press meet held at Manipur Press Club this evening, Sobita Mangsatabam, member of women wing of UNMM claimed that during the investigation of the murder case of Gaithouliu Phaomei, the concerned IO did not take proper statements of the maternal family members and relatives of the deceased as per the information received from the maternal family.
She said that the loopholes in the investigation process affected submission of the case in the Court due to lack of evidence.
Maintaining that police investigation plays a major role in the Court's procedure and in delivering justice, Sobita demanded the authority concerned to conduct a proper investigation into the case.
She also asked the authority concerned to form a SIT or a high level investigative committee for the probe and hand over the case to a fast track court to ensure speedy justice.
Ph Akuam who claimed to be the aunty of the deceased regretted that the police did not take up the required investigative procedure.
Rongmei Lu Phuam (RLP) president Panti Gonmei conveyed that the organisation with the help of CSOs will make efforts to ensure justice for the victim.
Mention may be made that irate locals and family members of the deceased stormed Lamphel Court complex when the deceased's husband Ethube Daime s/o Haisangam Daime of T Pabram village was brought before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Tamenglong yesterday.
The Court asked Ethube to reappear before the Court on January 6 .
According to the FIR registered in connection with the murder case, Gaithouliu's aunt Julie Panmei identified a human skull found near the stream of Zaozi Duithal, located at Guigailong ward number 2 in Tamenglong as the skull of Ph Gaithouliu.
