Imphal, October 03 2012:
The Assam Post, a Guwahati based daily newpaper today launched its first Delhi edition in New Delhi.
The Delhi Edition will cost Rs 4 per copy.
Four pages of the 12 page daily newspaper will carry national and Delhi based news, events , happenings.
The basic foundation of bringing out the publication was to bridge the gap between the 'mainland' and North East India.
In the first complimentary copy, its Editor Arun Barman wrote that the national, medium and small paper don't provide space provide for north east news of social, political and economic significances.
Though there are few 'mainstream ' or mainland Indian news papers , it does not cater to large number of northeast populace in several metro cities across the country.
This, the Editor stated, is what had motivated the Assam Post to bring out its edition here in the capital, to reach out to the north easterners, who were outside the region.
The need to bring in the northeast community into the mainstream through a daily paper given the continued discrimination against the north easterners particularly the women folk was cited by the Editor as one reason behind bringing out the daily.
