Imphal, August 02 2009:
The Manipur People's Party (MPP) has today rejected Magisterial inquiry into the 23/7 Khwairamband Bazar incident which was assured by the Chief Minister O Ibobi on the floor of the Assembly during the recently concluded session.
Briefing media persons today after an emergency meeting of the MPP office bearers, including its advisors, and MLAs at the MPP office here, party President Dr Nimaichand Luwang said the MPP has been demanding an independent judicial inquiry into the killing of Ch Sanjit and Th Rabina and injuring of five other civilians or to institute a fact finding committee.
"The suspicion of the people is deepened with the exposure of the police action courtesy 'tehelka.com," Dr Nimaichand Luwang said.
The report of the Chief Minister which he presented in the House and that of Tehelka is contradictory, he added.
The MPP President said the number of fake encounter casualties has increased.
He said the MPP has been demanding a high level inquiry either by the CBI or a judicial inquiry into the incident this time.
Rejecting the government's order to institute a magisterial inquiry, the MPP president said it is deceiving the people.
Stating that the police commandos involved in the incident are plainly visible from the pictures carried by Tehelka magazine, Dr Nimaichand also demanded that a criminal case against the police commandos who are seen around the victim, Sanjit, minutes before his dead should be filed and they must be suspended from service.
He said his party will endorse the general strike called by the Working Committee of Apunba Lup, adding that the party will urge the Governor for the institution of a high level judicial inquiry into the incident and to initiate action against the personnel in order to prevent the recurrence of such incident.
Speaking on the occasion, MPP Advisor, Thounaojam Chaoba said that as there has been now evidence on fake encounter killings, the party will ask the Governor to institute judicial inquiry on the matter.
In case the government failed to institute judicial inquiry, the MPP will not remain silent.
When asked why the opposition members were supporting the report of the CM in the Assembly on the day of the incident, MPP MLA O Joy said the MLAs cannot oppose to a report given by the CM on instantaneous incidents.
Besides, the MLAs did not know all about the incident.
Th Chaoba also said that the report of the CM was already prepared in written.
The CM has to resign in case his report is false.
He said it was a cold-blood murder and the truth must be established.
He further said the matter will be apprised to the Governor during a meeting slated for Monday.
