IRCS observes National Voluntary Blood Donation Day

The Indian Red Cross Society, Imphal West District Branch today observed the National Voluntary Blood donation day 2020 under the theme 'Lets donate blood voluntarily and contribute to the fight against corona' .
Dr Koijam Arunkanta, vice chairman, IRCS Manipur State Branch and chairman IRCS Imphal West District Branch said that the national voluntary blood donation day on October first is celebrated every year in India since 1975 .
It is organised by National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC) and National AIDS Control Organisation, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
The main objectives of NVBD are: to increase awareness among people and importance of voluntary blood donation, to achieve 100% voluntary blood donation to give safest blood to the needy patients, to have enough blood stock at blood banks for any eventuality, to give thanks and reinforce the self esteem of those who donate blood voluntarily, so that they continue to donate blood regularly.
Further, to inspire others who has not donated blood to donate blood, to inspire donors who donate blood only for their relatives or friend to donate for others as well.
He appealed to all the generous people especially youths to donate blood voluntarily to give someone a second chance.
"Donate blood.
It is safe," he added.
As a part of the observation, a blood donation camp was held today at Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS (Blood Bank) in association with Association of Voluntary Blood Donors, Manipur; RIMS Blood Donors Community; Department of Transfusion Medicine; Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) and Lions Club of Imphal.
Indian Red Cross Society Imphal West District Branch started blood donation camp since February 2020 and a total of 239 units have been donated.
In today's camp, 21 units of blood were donated.
Meanwhile, Indian Red Cross Society Imphal East District in collaboration with State Blood Transfusion Council conducted a voluntary blood donation camp at JNIMS Blood Bank in connection with the National Blood Day.
22 people donated blood today which included five women donors.
Chairman of the branch, Narendra Ningomba appealed the people to donate blood to become a 'life saver' .
