Imphal, October 31 2011:
The Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal (Tangkhul Students' Union) has alleged atrocities against its members namely Graceson Kashung and Thangmeiso Hungyo by troops of 31 Assam Rifles deployed at Khudengthabi area on October 27 .
A TKLI statement issued by its general secretary said both Graceson and Thangmeiso, hailing from Ukhrul district but presently staying at Imphal, were heading to Moreh for visit cum shopping at the border town when they stopped at the Khudengthabi check-post and taken inside the camp.
The AR personnel, inspite of both producing their identity cards, subjected them to physical assault for not admitting that they were NSCN (IM) activists, said the statement while adding that even their money (Rs 20,000) was taken away by the AR troops.
Expressing that such brutal conduct of the AR men has reduced various MCA programmes initiated in the hills to a futile exercise, the student body demanded that the money allegedly confiscated be returned in addition to bearing medical expenses incurred by the victims and booking of the guilty AR personnel.
Meanwhile, TKLI also condemned in the strongest term the alleged thrashing of ANSAM president Kumo at Taphou, Senapati by troops of Assam Rifles led by a Major, on October 24 night.
TKLI also pledged all possible support in any movement initiated by the UNC or ANSAM for removal of the accused Major from service.
