Five shops gutted in Yairipok fire

Yairipok, May 29 2012:
Five shops in Yairipok Santidan Keithel were reduced to ashes in devastating fire which broke out from a shop selling petrol at around 8.30 am today.
Two police personnel of Yairipok Police Station including the OC sustained injuries in public fury over the delayed in arrival of Fire tenders.
The five ill-fated five shops belonged to Md Abdul Rajak (31) son of Md Baseruddin of Yairipok Singa; Md Ibothem (30) son of Md Abdul Barik of Yairipok Tulihal Mayai Leikai; Md Helal (55) son of late Md Serouddin of Yairipok Tulihal Mayai Leikai; Laishram Amujao (35) son of late Laishram Inaobi of Poiroukhongjin Mayai Leikai and Md Ithemcha (28) son of Md Abdul Helim of Yairipok Tulihal Mayai Leikai.
In addition to the five shops, two others belonging to Md Shahid (36) of Yairipok Tulihal Awang Leikai and Md Tajuddin (35) son of Md Jamaruddin of Yairipok Tulihal Awang Leikai were also partially burnt in the fire.
Locals who witnessed the inferno got infuriated when Fire tenders failed to arrive in time even after timely reporting of the incident.
Soon the crowd turned into a mob fury and began to attack the police personnel who were already there using stone and sticks.
OC of Yairipok Police and one personnel identified as Mutum Hemanta sustained injuries in the attack.
The OC was hit on his shoulder by a stick while the other personnel behind his head.
Moments after the attack Fire tenders arrived but were stopped from entering the spot.
Police dispersed the mob with firing tear gas shells.
