AITUC, NEFIS extend solidarity to CAF and PD Labourers' Welfare Association

All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur State Committee has expressed solidarity to the movement of CAF and PD Labourers' Welfare Association.
Regarding the abrupt termination of several labourers/workers who were engaged in FCI Sangaiprou and in Jiribam, the CAF and PD Welfare Association has submitted a number of representation to the authority concerned, said a press release issued by secretary, AITUC Manipur.
Various form of agitations were also launched following the inaction and negligence of the State Government, it stated while adding that the State Government and the authorities concerned has managed to turn a blind eye till date.
It further stated that the union will extend solidarity to the movement of CAF and PD Labourers Welfare Association halt all trucks plying along Imphal-Jiri.
AITUC, MSC has urged the State Government and the authorities concerned to solve the issue at the earliest.
On the other hand, North East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) has backed the agitation launched by CAF and PD Labourers' Welfare Association.
A press release issued by NEFIS stated that the workers' union has been compelled to take such a move due to the inaction of the State Government and FCI authorities regarding the grievances of the workers/labourers.
The workers, who were terminated by contractor NR Mathai Enterprises, were earlier arrested when they raised their grievances, it lamented.
It may be recalled that more than 30 FCI workers, who have been agitating against the exploitative practices in FCI by the private contractor, were arrested in early December and released later.
NEFIS stands in solidarity with the FCI workers and their families, it asserted.
It demanded that all the workers/labourers who were fired from their jobs should be reinstated at the earliest and demanded the authorities concerned to take necessary action against the contractor.
NEFIS has pledged to support the workers' struggle in the coming days, it said.
