Imphal, October 26 2016:
The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Manipur Pradesh has joined the chorus of condemnations against the ambush on a Ministerial team headed by the Chief Minister and the Home Minister at Ukhrul on October 24 .
Speaking to media persons at their Mahaballi Haokip Veng office today, AITC Manipur president Kim Gangte said that the ambush should be enquired thoroughly without undue delay.
Suspension of some police personnel in connection with the ambush was not a right step.
The ambush was a stark reminder of the law and order situation prevailing in the State and absence of governance in many areas.
It is rather disheartening that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not bothered to voice a single word of condemnation against the ambush.
Regardless of their differences, all political parties should view the Ukhrul ambush with utmost seriousness, Kim Gangte said.
All the political parties active in Manipur should take up the issue with the Government of India collectively.
Very few persons living in the hill and interior areas of Manipur know the Chief Minister, the Home Minister and local MLAs because they seldom visit the interior areas.
When Manipur was under monarchy, the kings used to visit the interior areas very frequently and they had close relationship with the people.
But the incumbent Government seldom visits interior areas of the State.
As such, there is a big gap between the elected representatives and the people, remarked Gangte.
She then expressed keen desire for the Chief Minister and his Ministers to visit interior areas of the State regularly.
Meanwhile, AITC Manipur Pradesh Youth Committee too has condemned the Ukhrul ambush in the strongest term.
