Imphal, August 26 2013:
BJP Manipur State unit has submitted a memorandum to the party president seeking an immediate halt to the ongoing border fencing work in Manipur sector of Indo-Myanmar border.
Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office today, BJP State unit president and former Union Minister Th Chaoba said that Manipuri people are still lamenting the loss of Kabow Valley which was gifted to Burma during Congress rule at New Delhi.
Chief Minister cannot feign ignorance when large chunks of Manipur's territory is lost on account of border fencing.
The border fencing work has turned out to be a serious cause of worry for the people of Manipur and it should be put on hold until the boundary is re-surveyed properly, Chaoba said.
Noting that it is not Myanmar which is constructing border fence but it is India which is constructing the border fence after leaving out large tracts of Manipur's territory, Chaoba asserted that Congress Governments at the State and the Centre should be held accountable for such fait accompli.
Questioning why the border fence is constructed hurriedly when there boundary is not properly demarcated, Chaoba expressed astonishment at the Home Ministry's reported that clarification that it was security fencing, not permanent boundary fencing.
Talking about the National Food Security Bill, the BJP leaders said that the bill was prepared with a view to the Lok Sabha election.
The Government would never succeed in implementing the bill in letter and spirit.
He pointed out that there no adequate godowns for stocking food grains nor necessary infrastructure while the two National Highways connecting Manipur to other parts of the country are still lying in pathetic condition.
The Congress party should deceiving public at the time of election.
Regardless of whether the National Food Security Bill is implemented in the form of ordinance or Act, it would not bring any benefit to the people of Manipur, Chaoba said.
