Doctors suspend cease-work for three weeks in public interest

Doctors in JNIMS have suspended the cease work strike which was launched from April 21 for a period of three weeks.
A spokesman said that the decision was taken in view of the assurance given by the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi who is the Chairman of the Executive Council to look into the demands.
He also said that the doctors took into consideration the untold hardships caused to the poor section of patients.
They are demanding the removal of the director in charge Dr M Shyamo and better service conditions.
The strong displeasure expressed by the DESAM over the cease work strike and suggestion to adopt some other means of protests had a direct bearing on the decision taken by the doctors.
Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, the only State medical college was paralysed as staff including doctors and nurses joined the indefinite cease work strike.

The JNIMS hospital doctors had started the indefinite cease work strike since April 21 while contractual nurses joined the agitation from Saturday.
Hueiyen Lanpao reporter found on Sunday only six patients, five in Children's Ward and one patient in the Female Ward.
They had been admitted in the hospital before the beginning of the strike.
Patients narrated that most of the patients were discharged from the hospital after doctors started cease work strike though some serious patients stayed back in the hospital.
There have been regular check ups by the doctors and nurses though no patients were admitted in the hospital after the strike.
OPD, Casualty, Emergency services are also shut down.
Most of the blocks in the hospital were found closed when this reporter visited on Sunday.
Meanwhile, contractual Staff Nurse Association (CSNA), JNIMS on Sunday held a sit-in protest in front of the hospital demanding service regularization before any fresh recruitment is done.
Speaking to the media persons at the site of the protest, CSNA President Zeneeta Laishram, said that the association had submitted several memorandums to the Chief Minister and other responsible authorities demanding regularization of their service.
She alleged that Government did not take up any steps to regularize their services.
Zeneeta further said that from April 17 the contractual nurses have been working by wearing black badge and from Saturday joined the indefinite cease work strike.
She also threatened that the association will adopt stronger forms of agitations if the Government fails to comply with their demands.
On the other hand, Nurses' Association, TNAI JNIMS Unit has also decided to launch a cease work strike from Monday until their demands are fulfilled.
