WBCC condemns illegal excavation

Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Committee (WBCC), Manipur termed the incident of snatching and taking away of seized machineries, including 1 JCB and 1 Tata Dipper, from the forest department officials allegedly by the armed security escort of MLA Khangabok AC Okram Surjakumar yesterday, which was published in the leading local newspaper today, as unfortunate.
The forest department reportedly seized the machineries for illegal excavation at Tentha Thambal Chingya yesterday.
In a press release issued by WBCC, it strongly condemned the illegal excavation at Tentha Thambal Chingya amidst strong advocacy and push for mass-scale tree plantations to fight the global warming by many ministers, MLAs in the state and urged the authority concerned to look into the matter.
The statement further said that the authority concerned must take strong action against those individuals who are indulged in illegal excavation, cutting of trees in the State irrespective of the position and status of the individuals while adding that WBCC, Manipur will always fight for balanced eco-system in the state.
