Crafts exhibition

The crafts exhibition which began from March 17 at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi, under the aegis of Directorate of Textiles and Handloom, wrapped up today.
Nilakuthi Gram Panchayat Pradhan, Langpoklakpam Liklaileima, Deputy Director of Textiles and Handloom as well as general manager of Manipur Handlooms and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd, Elangbam Jiten, Deputy Director, Ch Sukumar and the Directorate's Imphal West Project Manager, Th Sunila, attended the closing function as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the event, E Jiten said that construction of the Urban Haat began in 2011.The construction work halted due to some inconveniences, before resuming again in Nov last year.
The structure was inaugurated on March 17 and the crafts exhibition was kick started as a part of the inauguration event, he added.
Jiten informed that such exhibitions will be organised at regular intervals and added that the 3rd National Handloom Expo will be organised at Urban Haat on March 30.He continued that he came across clay pitchers made in Oinam village (Senapati), clothes made from bamboo cover, pitchers made in Nungbi (Ukhrul) and wood carvings from Kamjong.
The Directorate is assessing the possibility of providing technical input or any other forms of assistance to these crafts, he added.
The presidium members also distributed certificates to the crafts persons and firms during the event.
