Imphal, May 21 2011:
The tension that brewed up in Senapati district headquarters over the detention of five NSCN-IM cadres by troops of 5 AR eased with the release of the cadres.
A highly reliable source said that four arms, two AK series rifles, one carbine and one pistol, recovered from the possession of the five cadres were retained by the AR .
Whether the seized arms were handed over to the police or not could not be confirmed for the time being.
The tension surfaced when hundreds of womenfolk protested against the AR's attempt to shift the five cadres, reportedly including a captain, to Imphal.
Usually, AR and other central security forces engaging in counter insurgency operations hands over underground cadres apprehended by them to the police in Imphal.
The cadres were released late last night around 1.30 am after womenfolk of the Senapati Women Society blocked NH 39 at Ningthoupham and remained in protest in front of the AR camp at Henbung.
After a long negotiation between the AR officials and leaders of the Senapati Women Society, the AR released the cadres, reports said.
