Rs 300cr sanctioned for hills: CM Ibobi

In a move to balance developmental works being taken up by the government both in the hills and the plains, an amount of Rs 300 crores has been sanctioned by the Central Government under its composite scheme exclusively for development of the hill districts of the State, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has stated.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the inaugural function of a branch office of State Bank of India (SBI) at Gamnom in Sapermeina today, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh informed that the amount has been sanctioned for the purpose of development of the government offices in all the sub-divisions of the hill districts and securities, quarters and drinking water facilities would also be provided in all the offices under the said composite scheme.
Noting that people living in far off places of the hill districts are facing problems due to absence of bank facilities, the Chief Minister announced that to solve this problem, the State Government is planning to establishment banks in all the sub-divisions of hill districts and it is under this venture that a new branch of State Bank of India has been set up at Gamnom village.
With opening of the SBI branch at Gamnom, parents whose children are studying outside would have no more problems in sending money to their children.

And all the job card holders under MGNREGS can also withdraw their wages from the bank in ease, he added.
The Chief Minister further informed that the Government has begun construction of buildings for setting up banks in all the sub-divisions of the hill districts.
There would also be no lack of staff's quarters and security in the newly set up bank branches.
All the basic necessities including drinking water facilities would also be provided.
A SBI branch has already been opened in Noneyand another branch would come up at Tamei shortly.
Likewise, all the sub-divisions of the hill districts would have banking fscilities one after another, the Chief Minister assured.
Referring to incidentof Thokchom Kiran who was found murdered in a fish farm at Komlakhong Konungma Makha leikai under Mayang Imphal Leikai yesterday, after he was reported missing since March 14, Chief Minister O Ibobi pledged that the accused in the case would not be spared and appealed to all not to flare up communal tensions over the incident.
"It is not fair to blame a whole community for the wrong done by some miscreants belonging to that community," the Chief Minister stressed, adding that the Government can put all the accused behind the bar, but it cannot determine the quantum of punishment to be given to them as it solely depends on the law court.
Expressing unhappiness over the mob violence of setting the house of the prime suspect on fire by local Meitei-Pangals yesterday, the Chief Minister said that so far police have arrested two main accused including Rifleman of 7th MR namely Makakmaytum Salim (37), s/o Abdul Kahir, who has also been suspended from service, and the third accused is still absconding.
But he would also be arrested and the State Government will not remain silent and see that all the needful is done in favour of the victim's family, the Chief Minister assured.
Presided over by IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip, the function was also attended by MLA Yamthong Haokip of Saikul A/C and MLA Nemcha Kipgen of Kangpokpi as Guests of Honour.
