AR 'lights up' Chandel villages

In furtherance of the motto 'Friends of Manipur', HQ 26 Sector AR under HQ IGAR (S) distributed 200 Solar lights to 27 remote villages of Chandel district, said a PRO IGAR (S) .
Highlighting that taking into account the nascent state of electric power infrastructure in this still developing area of Manipur, the solar lights were provided with the aim to promote income generating avenues in each of the villages, the release said the project is a joint venture with 'The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), New Delhi, which is a leading force in the country in alternative energy solutions, and the Assam Rifles.
The inauguration of the project and distribution of equipment was done at Pallel by IGAR (S) Maj Gen UK Gurung in the presence of 26 Sector Commander Brig Upendra Dwivedi and other senior officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Gurung exhorted the locals to preserve the environment by adopting alternative energy in a bigger way.
"This would also ensure a safer environment and future for the coming generations" .
He also declared that more such projects would be launched in coming days especially concerning infrastructure and youth of the state.
He assured the gathering that Assam Rifles would always be hand in hand with the locals towards their efforts in the development of the region and turning it into an area of peace and prosperity, and extended greetings of Raising Day to all ranks of 26 Sector AR.
The 200 La BL solar systems were distributed by 9 Assam Rifles, 24 Assam Rifles, 35 Assam Rifles and 42 Assam Rifles to Zion Veng, L Phuchang, New Moreh, Guite Veng, Sanai Veng, M Cholanou, Zomunnom, B Bongjang, Gamphazol, Sersi, Aishi, Kholmunlen, Mitong, Anal Khullen, Phungchong, Chingjarol, Phaichambung, Oklu, Phiran Khullen, Phiran Machet and Thisomjang villages.
