RIMS celebrates 43 years of existence in health care

The 43rd Foundation Day of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) was celebrated at Jubilee Hall of the institute here today with Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the Home portfolio, as Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Gaikhangam said that RIMS is a reputed medical institute in the entire north eastern region and many students who passed out from the institute are now serving in various renowned hospitals in different parts of the country today.
He called upon students from outside Manipur studying in RIMS not to feel insecure as the government will not leave no stone unturned as far as protecting them is concerned and exhorted the medical students to regard the profession seriously as they are going to dealt with saving lives of people.

Stating that the government is exploring all possible steps to implement the Inner Line Permit System in the State at the earliest possible, the Dy CM pointed out that JCILPS relaxing curfew on non-locals is a welcoming step as such imposition will have adverse impact on people of the State staying in other parts of the country.
Society will be flourished only after people stop blaming each other and put in concerted effort regardless of one's profession and race, Gaikhangam added.
Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, who presided over the function, said that RIMS is a premier medical institute running with funding from the Central Government but many people from north eastern States are included as members of its Governing Body.
Appealing to the people particularly students and staffs of the institute to show warm hospitality to Health Ministers of other north eastern States whenever they visited the hospital, the Minister informed that the number of people coming to the hospital for treatment has increased considerably.
Along with presenting awards to several outstanding students of the medical institute, a report of the hospital was also released to mark the occaion.
Today's foundation function was also attended by Dr L Brajamohan, former Head, Department of Pediatrics, RIMS and Dr W Gopimohon, former Professor of Department of Surgery, RIMS as Guests of Honor.
