Imphal, June 14 2020:
All India Tanzeem-E-Insaaf (AITI) Lilong Local Council, has expressed concern over the likely community transmission of COVID-19 in the State in the wake of incidents which have occurred recently at many quarantine centres.
In a statement, AITI Lilong Council, has urged authorities concerned to look after quarantine centres and ensure all protocols are strictly followed.
The incidents of altercations at quarantine centre between inmates and volunteers, including one at Islam Baby English School on June 11 evening over supply of water, have clearly highlighted that there are loopholes and requirements to be rechecked and dealt urgently, it added.
Moreover, many parents are delivering food and other essential items to their wards being kept at quarantine centres and volunteers are at times facilitating service without using PPE and thin masks, which pose a great risk, it added.
The council condemned the act of subsequent shifting of the inmates to jail for just asking water for use and asked all concerned to fulfil criteria and requirements such as necessary toilet, bathroom before converting a place into a quarantine facility.
Many altercations are bound to happen if such things are not manned properly and protocol are not obeyed while drawing the attention of concerned MLA to look into the matter pertaining to quarantine centres in Lilong Assembly Constituency.
The council also asked the volunteers to consider the needs of the inmates and be fully aware of the quarantine protocol.
Let us drop self interest and fight together against the dreaded disease, it added.
