Meira Foods extend aid to farmers

Meira Foods is playing a pivotal role during this coronavirus induced lockdown by helping farmers in marketing fresh fruits and vegetables they grew.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, proprietor of the manufacturing unit, Hanjabam (n) Shubra Devi (52) said that the headquarters of Meira Foods is located at Brahmapur Aribam Leikai with its units opened at Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai and Kakching Kuraopokpi.
The foods production unit which currently employs about 60 individuals, mostly women, deals in making pickles from seasonal fruits, she said, adding its unit at Kakching Kuraopokpi (Industrial Estate) has also started producing dried fruits, juices, jams etc.
Saying that they bought 100 MT of pineapples through Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) at the rate of Rs 10 per kilogram, Shubra lamented that the finished pineapples products will be exported to other States.
The production process is currently halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she asserted and added that they are marketing their items only in online mode for the time being.
"We also sell fruits and vegetables grown by farmers from different districts with home delivery options available for consumers of Imphal East and Imphal West districts," the woman entrepreneur said and added that 3 vans are used for delivering raw fruits and vegetables to buyers.
Shubra continued that Meira Foods also delivered food items at COVID Centre with utmost care.
