Kumbirei village celebrates 58th years of existence

Imphal, March 13 2011:
Kumbirei Aimol village in Chandel district celebrated the completion of 58 years of existence.
Villagers celebrated the day with a function held today at the community hall of the village.
Ruitorsua, member of the Chandel ADC graced as chief guest in the function which was presided over by Khupler Kom, president of the National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO).
Chanthoi Aimol, a member of the ADC Chandel attended as guest of honour.
The opening function began with the offering of flowers at a village memorial stone.
Chief guest of the function led the villagers in paying the tributes.
In a key note address, Ch Roben said that the village was founded in 1952 when the family of the present village chief first settled in the area.
The village expanded from 1960 when eight families of different Aimol clans shifted to the village.
The government recognized the village in 1966.There are now more than 198 houses in the village.
Speaking as president of the function, NIPCO president, Khupler Kom reminded that when the villagers paid respect to their village chief and if the chief handled the responsibilities of chieftainship, the village would be able to march ahead with development.
He reminded that village chiefs should not do anything against the interest of the villagers asserting that some village chiefs are indulging in such activities.
This will hinder in development of the village, he added.
As a tribute to the deceased persons of the village, cultural dance items marked the celebration function.
