Imphal, March 12 2014 :
The Maralui Karalimei Swijoikang (Maram Students' Union) has urged the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) and the Govt of Manipur to reconsider the decision of implementing New Scheme of Study that abolishes Alternative English from the Board's Class IX-X syllabus.
A statement issued by the president of MKS, Pungdi P Celestine said that many tribal dialects are awaiting recognition from the Govt while some others are in the process of introduction in school syllabus.
If the scheme be implemented, students from these communities would be forced to opt for language papers which are not their mother tongue much to their disadvantage.
As such, the Alternative English paper should be retained in the syllabus for some more years until the introduction of these languages in the Board curricula, the MKS reasoned.
At the same time, the MKS strongly urged the Govt to expedite the process of languages approval so that all students get the chance of mother tongue education.
