Imphal, May 10 2015 :
Major Inpui civil society organizations have on Sunday strongly condemned the Ijeirong incident of May 7 and demanded immediate transfer of Commanding Officer of 9th Dogra Regiment posted at Puichi (Oktan) in Tamenglong district.
Inpui Naga Union, All Inpui Students' Union, Inpui Naga Women's Union, Inpui Naga Baptist Churches Association and Ebion Public School, Ijeirong condemned the incident in a statement released by All Inpui Students' Union (AISU).
The Inpui organizations also earnestly appeal to all the underground factions and groups to refrain from indulging in factional fighting and killing, AISU said.
Haochong area under Haochong subdivision of Tamenglong district has been turned into a battlefield which has hampered normal activities of the villagers and traumatized innocent people, it said.
The statement said that on May 7, a man named NK Shajonba Inpui was found dead in a jungle located about 1.5 km from Ijeirong village.
On the pretext of questioning in connection with the incident, CO Major Patel of 9th Dogra Regiment summoned Alimba Inka, a warden and teacher of Ebion Public School, Ijeirong and he was subjected to physical torture, it alleged.
Alimba was being detained and tortured by Major Patel in front of his own students, which was a serious violation of human rights, academic freedom and right to education, the statement charged.
It added that a group of women folk and young students demonstrated and tried to rescue the teacher from the hands of Major Patel, but they were threatened and verbally abused with 'indecent words' by the Army officer.
Major Patel also allegedly forced all parents to slap their children who were protesting against the incident, AISU said.
AISU demanded immediate transfer of Major Patel and compensation for the incident and warned of launching intense agitation if the demands are not met by the Government at earliest convenience.
It further appealed to the higher authority concerned to look into the 'serious matter' so that an amicable and peaceful solution can be brought quickly.
