Imphal, June 08 2018:
Former MLA of Kumbi Assembly Constituency, Ningthoujam Mangi has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speaking to media persons at his residence at Sangaiprou today, N Mangi said that he would work according to the wishes of the people and join a political party which believes in secularism and which will work towards strengthening the democracy.
He narrated that on February 5 last year, he along with three Gram Panchayat Pradhans, chairperson and councillors of various Urban Local Body and around 1000 members of CPI, joined BJP in an event attended by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda.
He claimed that he has no hard feelings toward CPI but decided to join BJP as the strength of CPI was deteriorating and also in the interest of the people of Kumbi A/C.Mangi also clarified that he joined BJP as he hoped for great change in the State in the light of various developmental initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi like Sabka Sath Sabka Bikash, New India and Make in India etc.
However, the end result is the complete opposite of what Narendra Modi promised, he claimed and narrated that BJP introduced demonetisation promising to bring back black money to the country and with tall promises like depositing Rs 15 lakh each to the people's account but failed miserably as people like Nirav Modi have looted the people and ran away unscathed.
India has the highest GST rate as well as the highest price of petroleum products in the world, he claimed and blasted BJP party saying that despite promising to eradicate corruption, BJP is helping various MNCs with vested interest.
On the other hand, speaking about the National Sports , University issue, Mangi said that the National .Sports University Bill has not been passed in the Parliament till date.
Even before the main campus of NSU is completed, the Government tried to establish outlying campuses at Lucknow and attempted to recruit faculty for some major courses (which was recently postponed due to pressure from students community and the sports persons of Manipur).
Mangi alleged that the NDA Government is trying to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 in the North East region, which has a large number of ethnic communities (although with low population) and claimed that the Central Government is trying to ignite tension when the demand for ILPS is rampant in Manipur.
On the other hand, the Framework Agreement signed between the Central Government and the NSCN (IM) has also created a tense atmosphere in the State due to the secrecy surrounding the contents of the agreement.
Mangi further alleged that the internal working of BJP is rather inefficient and added that the seven MLAs of Congress who joined BJP are seen as Congress inside the Assembly although they act like BJP to the outside world.
He claimed that looking at all these issues, he decided to quit the party and as such he has already sent in his resignation to the party's president.
He also informed that a public meeting will be held on June 11 at Kumbi where he will decide which party to join as per the wishes of the people.
