While predicting that National People's Party (NPP) will win over 20 seats in the 12th Manipur Legisla-live Assembly election, NPP state working president and Keishamthong AC candidate L Jayantakumar has revealed that efforts are being on for holding talks with Congress and Naga People's Front (NPF) for the formation of the new government in the state.
Talking to The People's Chronicle on Monday, Jayantakumar contended that over 20 out of 38 NPP candidates will emerge victorious in the polls.
Apart from himself, the other possible successful candidates include Uripok AC candidate and deputy CM Y Joykumar, Khuraijam Loken (Wangoi), Huidrom Vikramjit (Yaiskul), Oinam Romen (Singjamei), Sheikh Noorul Hassan (Kshetrigao), Khaipao Haokip (Saikot), Khanthang Tonsing (Saikot), N Kayisii (Tadubi), Janghemlung Panmei (Tamenglong) and Ningam Chamroy (Chingai).
Recalling the last election, the working president said that NPP won 4 seats and took a key role in the formation of the present government.
However, despite being part Of the coalition, BJP looked down upon NPP on many occasions.
In the current elections, NPP did not have any pre-poll understanding with any other party except Congress, even though the two parties are contesting the elections on their own strength.
Stating that no party will be getting absolute majority, Jayantakumar said that BJP will not win 40 seats.
Congress will win at least 10-13 seats, while NPF will secure 6-7 seats.
He then said that NPP will not be working with BJP this time, and as such, efforts are being made to talk with Congress and NPF to form the new state government.
Additionally, talks are on line with JD (U) as well.
If an NPP-led government is to be formed, a common minimum programme will be formulated and a name of the coalition government will be worked out, he conveyed.
