Mao Students' Union launches tree plantation campaign

Senapati, June 05 2019:
As World Environment Day falls on June 5, the Mao (Ememei) Students' Union (MSU) launched a tree plantation campaign today at Emesiiphro, just 2 kms away from the district headquarters, Senapati.
The launching programme was graced by David Khrasi, Member, ADC, Senapati in the presence of the executives of the student body, village authority members and youth members of Emesiiphro and Mao Taphou, Senapati.
Kapani Lorho, president of the Mao Students' Union highlighted the plans and programmes of the campaign and emphasised the need for preservation and protection of environment to save "our future".
The "Green Project" of the student body is an initiative to raise awareness about climate change and promote sustainable eco-system by acting upon it involving young people.
It aims at re-greening the natural landscapes through plantation of trees.
With support and collaboration from neighbouring villages, the student leader asserted that they have a good number of manpower and resources to make the project a success.
ADC Member David Khrasi lauded the student body for starting the initiative.
The students have reported covered 2 villages Emesiiphro and Mao Taphou and planted about 4,000 saplings of different varieties of tree.
The campaign will cover Mao area continue till June 8 .
The student body expressed gratitude to Dr Lokho Puni, IFS, Addl PCCF, Govt of Manipur and Chinphilhing Kipgen, Divisional Forest Officer, Research, Selviculture & Training Division for providing saplings.
