Ukhrul, October 01 2012:
A new twice a week newspaper has hit the news stands of Ukhrul.
The paper, edited by Rehoboam Lester Makang is published from Phungreitang West in the heart of Ukhrul district headquarters.
The new newspaper christened Ukhrul Observer is a bilingual-English and Tangkhul to be published every Monday and Thursday.
"The paper which will be printed in a unique tabloid format in part colour will cater to both Tangkhul and English readers.
It will attach special importance to happenings and events in Ukhrul district so as to help foster better understanding amongst the denizens of the district through proactive role of the print media," stated editor Rehoboam Lester Makang.
"While people here depend only on out-of-town papers, we need one of our own", feels the Ukhrul Observer editor who is also the publisher of the newspaper while adding, "In the absence of any local paper, we recognize a niche for an alternative publication that could fill the people's appetite for current news to some extent.
To further this end, we fervently look forward to making it a seven days a week proposition in the near future" .
There is a lack of media attention in many aspects of everyday living and even access to news of current events is normally delayed in this part of the State.
"It is imperative to fill the gap in communications", Makang further stated.
"And we are crossing our fingers that the birth of 'Ukhrul Observer' will be a step forward in providing a window for Ukhrul to see, hear and be seen and heard by the outside world" .
Apart from bringing a new experience to news-hungry Ukhrulites, it will also aim to attract lapsed readers by focusing on issues concerning developments, culture, society etc of the district, the editor further stated.
