IGAR (South) Major General CA Krishan has assured that Sajik Tampak in Chandel district of Manipur would be developed into a beautiful and exemplary model village.
Inaugurating an awareness programme for the farmers of Sajik Tampak area at the complex of Central Agriculture University, Iroisemba here today as chief guest, the Major General said that for the last 2/3 years, Assam Rifles have taken up the onus of developing Sajik Tampak area which used to underdeveloped, remote and trouble torn.
The villagers have also been cultivating Poppy plants illegally.
So, in order to solve this problem, the 8th Assam Rifles has joined hands with the Central Agriculture University to encourage the villagers to take up agriculture and other allied activities, he said., while assuring that Assam Rifles would extend every possible assistance towards development of Sajik Tampak area as a model village.
He also distributed seeds among the farmers at the occasion.
The inaugural function of the awareness programme held under the banner of 'One day farmers, scientist officer interaction cum awareness programme' was presided over by Dean of College of Agriculture Prof N Iboton.
Commander of 26 Sector AR Brig SK Bhanot and CO of 8th AR Col Ravindra Kumar were also present at the occasion.
Around 100 farmers from Sajik Tampak area participated in the awareness programme.
