Medam-Me-Phi observed

Assam Kristi Tai Kendra organised Medam-Me-Phi ceremony at Punjabari, Guwahati yesterday.
The ceremony marked offering of grand feast to the ancestors of Tais, who are believed to have migrated from Mong Mao in 1228 AD.
It is said that prince Sukaphaa trvelled to Assam from Mong Mao, which was located at the border of Yunan Province and Myanmar with his 10,000 soldiers crossing Patkai Range.
Descendants of prince Sukaphaa ruled Assam from 1228 AD to 1826 AD.
Their kingdom saw downfall after British reached Assam and Treaty of Yandabaw.
Among others, Assam Social Welfare Minister Akon Bora, Indo Myanmar Fraternal Alliance president RK Shivachandra, Assamese historian Sangita Gogoi, Tai Kendra president, senior journalist Oinam Sunil and delegates from Thailand attended the function.
