SPDPO condemns assault of differently abled person

The State Platform of Disabled People's Organisation's (SPDPO) Manipur has condemned the incident where one mentally challenged person was 'beaten black and blue on the charges of robbing a house at Ucheckon, Imphal East on July 27'.A press release issued by the SPDPO said that the mentally challenged person Md Dilawar, S/o Md Abdul Rashid of Yairipok Singa Mathak went missing on July 27 .
Soon after, missing reports were filed at Yairipok and Irilbung Police Stations, it said and alleged that later that day at around 8 pm Irilbung PS informed that Md Dilawar was rounded up by the locals of Ucheckon on the charges of robbing a house.
SPDPO then asked if beating a person black and blue in broad daylight for entering a house without asking his intention or understanding his conditions first is right.
It also expressed disappointment at the Irilbung police for not trying to find out the truth behind the incident.
Saying that person with disabilities is protected under the Right to Person With Disabilities Act, 2016 from abuse, violence and exploitation, the SPDPO said that they vehemently condemn the incident.
It also appealed to the State Government to take actions against the police personnel who made no efforts to find out the truth of the incident.
