Imphal, May 29 2018:
The Maring Napuiya Yinglam (MNY), Chairman Association, Machi Block, All Laiching Village Authority Action Committee (ALVAAC) and All Laiching Napui Yinglam (ALNY), on Tuesday clarified that the charges laid upon one Lamthaka Mothil of Laiching Khuman Machi, Sub-Division, Chandel district by the Kakching Police are totally false and based on distorted facts.
It may be noted here that, the Kakching Police had claimed that they have arrested one member of a gang, identified as Lamtaka Mothil, involved in extortion of money in and around Laiching Khuman after a brief exchange of fire from both sides.
The arrest of Lamthaka Mothil was a staged drama in a bid to avenge and cover an indecent act of one fellow policeman with a girl, alleged the organisations in a statement issued Tuesday.
The published news item in the Sangai Express on May 28 under the heading "Police exchange fire with gangs, 1 nabbed" is nothing but a show of police muscle power to avenge one of their own fellow policeman who was caught red handed in a 'compromising position with a girl in a deserted area', said the organisations in their statement.
The organisations clarified that Lamthaka Mothil, who was arrested by Kakching Police is totally innocent and is a mason by profession.
On May 25, Youth Club members of Laiching Khuman village, while visiting/inspecting an area between Khangshim-Laiching Minou, found one person namely Rajiv Singh of Hiyanglam (believed to be a Head Constable of CDO Thoubal Unit) and a girl in a compromising position.
And accordingly they were caught by the Youth Club members, said the organisations in their statement.
Further, the victims requested the club members to release them, stating that they will not repeat the same again in future.
After much discussion and as per the custom they were released with the condition that they have to pay a fine.
But, since they did not have money with them at the time, an agreement was reached that they have to pay the fine the next day and both sides exchanged phone numbers.
Thereafter, on May 26, L Rajiv Singh called up the Youth Club leaders to come and collect the said fine imposed against him.
Accordingly Lamthaka Mothel went to collect the fine but unfortunately he was caught by some police personnel who were dressed in plain clothes.
After, Lamthaka Mothil was caught, around 7 vehicles rushed near the spot and fired few rounds.
Thereafter, the police personal thrashed Lamthaka Mothil to give names of persons who were questioning L Rajiv the previous day and their whereabouts.
Eventually, Lamthaka Mothil agreed to show their houses and they fired some rounds of ammunition before they took off to the village and went house to house to search and seized 3 license guns (kartus), claimed the organisations.
