10 days workshop on Raas Leela begins at Jiribam

A 10-days workshop on Raas Leela jointly organized by Inunganbi Manipuri Dance Academy (IMDA), Jiribam in association with Jawaharal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), Imphal begins today at around 2 pm at Training Hall of IMDA, Dibong, Jiribam District.
The opening day of the workshop was attended by RK Nobinsana Singh, Pradhan, Dibong GP; K Khumanjao Singh, President, Echel Club, Dibong, Jiribam; M Kamini Kumar Singh, Guru, JNMDA, Imphal; P Dhanajit Singh, JNMDA, Imphal; ThNgangbi Devi, JNMDA, Imphal as presidium members.
The welcome speech of the 10-day workshop on Raas Leela was delivered by Chandam Biren Singh, General Secretary, MDA, Jiribam.
Speaking at the occasion, RK Nobinsana Singh, Pradhan, Dibong GP appreciated the initiative of conducting the workshop to promote and preserve the tradition and culture of Manipur and added that it is good move to prevent the downfall of Manipuri traditional dance and cultural songs.
He continued that we should work together constantly to make it more popular across the nation.
K Khumanjao Singh, President, Echel Club, Dibong, Jiribam said that it is a privilege for the Manipuri dance lovers of Jiribam to witness such workshop in Jiribam.
M Kamini Kumar Singh, Guru, JNMDA, Imphal said that nowadays most of the people are less inclined to learn traditional dances which has impacted a lot to promote and preserve it, however it is very heartwarming to notice number of students in the workshop who are admirer of Manipuri dance.
He expressed his disbelief on the presence of scores of Manipuri dance admirers, followers and students of Jiribam in the workshop.
He also shared a positive news that application to open a foundation course on traditional dance in Jiribam District, Nambol and Kakching district has been sent to the higher authority, which if approved will help the gurus teaching at IMDA, Jiribam.
P Dhanajit Singh, JNMDA, Imphal expressed his happiness on witnessing numbers of enthusiastic participants in the workshop and said that he is proud to be part of the workshop during which he will share valuable knowledge to the participants.
Th Ngangbi Devi, JNMDA, Imphal said that Jiribam is lucky to have such a dance academy and added that traditional dance identifies our culture and we should work together to safeguard it from being vanished.
About 25 people including male and female attended the opening workshop today.
